Tea at The Lodge: new and recent members

Two welcome events for new and recent members have been held in the Reading Room at The Lodge in March. Each afternoon was an opportunity for members to meet the ever-helpful YPS clerk, Frances Chambers and Catherine Brophy, Chair of YPS Council, alongside long-standing members and volunteers extraordinary, Margaret and Rod Leonard, who provided lots of useful background history about the society. We particularly enjoyed Margaret telling us about the Museum Gardens Bear (a living one!), who seems to have become too hot to handle. With the result that the Museum Curator was instructed to take him by stage coach to London. YMT curators have many challenges but at least they are spared transporting large living mammals to new homes!

On both occasions we shared delicious teas, provided by Margaret Leonard, which transformed the reading room into an elegant dining room for afternoon tea. We are grateful to Margaret for designing and organising this event. Coming in June will be further daytime events for members to learn more about the history of YPS including the Museum Gardens, and a chance to get to know each other.
