Connoisseur’s Tour of the Mansion House

Event Information

Apologies for the cancellation – we will rebook for July – hopefully snow free!

Cost £18 for a guided tour and light refreshments

The official residence of the Lord Mayor of York, in St Helen’s Square, was built between 1725 and 1732 and predates the London Mansion House. On arrival for 6pm we will have tea/coffee and biscuits in the State Room, decorated in Palladian style with elegant carving and much gold leaf.  The room houses the official Chains of Office, including the second oldest mayoral chain in the country, which has been worn by every Lord Mayor since 1612.  We will then be given a two hour tour of the house, hearing the history, seeing the portraits, a few items of furniture from the Noel Terry collection, and the collection of gold and silver, ranging from Civic regalia and medieval swords to elegant items for the dining table, and a solid silver chamber pot.

When we leave at 8pm there will be an optional meal in a nearby pub.
