“Fossils and Fracking”

- 7:30 PM
- Venue

- Speaker
- Dr Liam Herringshaw, Geologist
“Fossil fuels powered global industrialization, but also global warming. Of the new, ‘unconventional’ fossil fuels, shale gas is perhaps the most controversial. Proponents cite it as a cleaner, greener, energy source than oil and coal, whilst critics say it is inherently dangerous and will not reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Geologist Liam Herringshaw will give an overview of the shale gas story, examine the science behind the many sensational claims, and discuss the prospects of fracking in the UK. He will also explain his research interests, how he got from fossils to fracking, and show why a public understanding of geology is critical to making sensible decisions about our energy future.”
