Event Information

Join us for a guided visit to the Jim Austin Computer Collection in Fimber, on the Yorkshire Wolds.

Saturday 20th May 1pm to 4pm

This private collection was started in 1986 and represents the technical developments of computing from the earliest days to the present day. It holds examples from every generation of computers – mechanical, relay, valve, transistor, and all the variations of integrated circuit, a full collection of supercomputers and a huge IBM mainframe, as well as ten Cray supercomputers. It has one of the largest collections on show of Cray and Digital Equipment Corporation computers anywhere. It is housed in 8000 sq ft of buildings and organised into manufacturers. There is also a collection of radios to examine in “The Radio Shed”. See www.computermuseum.org.uk for more information.

The visit takes approximately 3 hours, and please note that this is a private collection housed in several buildings rather than a museum. Jim Austin and colleagues will be on hand to guide us around the exhibits. YPS invite you to join us either car sharing or by own transport. Tea/Coffee will be provided.

The fee of £17 per person is inclusive of tea or coffee and a donation to support the collection.

YPS terms and conditions are available from the Lodge or online at:
