Evolution of Language: what do chimpanzees have to say?

FRIDAY 12 FEBRUARY, The Basement, City Screen, Coney St, York. 7.30 doors for 8.00 pm start.
Tickets £5.00 from the box office at City Screen.

York University lecturer Dr Katie Slocombe, based in the Department of Psychology, will talk about how language may have evolved in humans. As Katie says, “We know that chimpanzees are similar to humans. They are intelligent, and have complex social relationships. They even have culture.” In her Speakezee talk at The Basement, Katie will talk about vocalisations chimps use for communication, whether these are intentional, and if they learn this form of rudimentary ‘speech’ from each other.

Another chance for the YPS audience to hear Katie Slocombe on this subject (she spoke to the YPS in November 2015).
