Cameras That Changed the World
Dr Jeff Craine

It has been said that ‘the history of photography is, more than any other art, a history of technology’. But, does this tell the whole story? Can creative innovations in photography be ‘explained’ entirely by reference to camera technology and design?

There may be an opportunity to see a Canon A1, a Yashica 635 which is a twin lens reflex cameras and possibly a borrowed VPK (the ‘soldier’s camera’ from WW1).

Dr Jeff Craine was a University lecturer at York St John’s in both the History of Art and Fine Art Practice. He has a special interest in the early development of Photography and its relationship to Painting and is an active enthusiast photographer, with a particular interest in landscape and architecture. He is a member of York Camera Club.
