At this reception, which has become an annual event, members of the YPS will be invited to view posters prepared by local sixth formers. As part of a scheme sponsored by the Nuffield Foundation, these young people have spent their summer taking part in scientific research, under the guidance of professional scientists in local universities and businesses, and the posters describe their work. At this event, they will be presented with certificates to mark their achievements. We will be also awarding the YPS Science Prize, including a certificate and a cheque, to one of them, and inviting them to tell us briefly about their research.
The reception will take place from 6.15 pm to 7 pm, in the museum atrium, before our regular lecture, and you are encouraged to read the posters and talk to the youngsters about their research. A glass of wine or a soft drink will be provided to help this process.
At 7 pm members will be invited to move through into the hall for the presentation. Please note that members arriving for the lecture between 7 and 7.30 pm will be invited to remain in the atrium until this finishes. Folding seats will be available, and members will have the opportunity to view the posters, which will still be on display.
In past years members have been inspired by the energy and commitment of these students. Do make an effort to come along at 6.15 pm and encourage the scientists of the future.
