How 'tone of voice' can change meaning: intensification in everyday talk.

Event Information

When does a day have more than 24 hours? When is a party not just a party? What’s wrong with wearing black at a wedding? All of these questions are based on real conversations, and the answer lies in the ways we can mark something out as extraordinary or intense. In this talk, we’ll look at how people manipulate aspects of the production of speech (as in: “that’s soooooo funny”), and what sort of response intensified talk is expected to get.

Doors open 7.15pm.  Tickets are free and can be pre-booked by phone or on-line with  City  Screen  (0871 902 5726)

Alternatively tickets are available on the night of the event at the City Screen Ticket Desk without incurring a booking charge.
