The Clerk confined to the Country …

… with foot aloft!

Apologies to any member who has recently arrived at the Lodge to find it closed.  A leg injury has locked me down at home and normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

Spending time lying on my back with leg raised in an attempt to reduce the swelling put me in mind of the Dufflepuds, encountered by the crew of the Dawn Treader on its voyage eastwards from Narnia, who use their single huge foot as a sunshade or umbrella.  This episode of the story ends with the making of a magical map, and it may be that C S Lewis drew inspiration for his monopod characters from a real map, the Mappa Mundi in Hereford.  Look closely, and near the top, beside the River Ganges, you find not a representation of some mythical single-footed creature, but a quite accurate depiction of how someone feels when nursing an injured leg.
