Sparrow seeks similar

After an interval of a few weeks, loud chirping has resumed in the bathroom extractor fan. If I interpret it correctly, the male house sparrow who built a nest there is calling for a female to join him, but seemingly without success so far. From the pieces of hay which occasionally end up in the bath, fine, soft and neatly pecked to 4 or 5 inches in length, I’m sure it’s a most comfortable nest. And with his strong clear voice echoing splendidly around the bathroom in the early hours of the morning, the little sparrow certainly manages to attract the attention of one female … unfortunately of the wrong species!
