Make hay while the sun shines

In the recent week of glorious summer weather between one spell of rain and the next I watched hay being made.  Late on Monday a small tractor and mower hurried up and down the grass field I see from my window.  On Tuesday and Wednesday it returned with a hay turner.  On Thursday, with thundery showers forecast for the next day, the crop was turned in the morning and the afternoon, and then in the evening the tractor re-appeared with a baler behind it.  On Friday, with perfect timing, the bales were collected up and taken to the safety of a barn, just as the first raindrops began to fall.

Perhaps over the coming weeks and months, as local lockdowns ease, resume and ease again, we shall all learn to “make hay while the sun shines”.
