CANCELLED Bowels, Bugs & Poo: How Laboratory Research Makes a Difference

Dr Susan Richman

Unfortunately this event has had to be cancelled due to the speaker’s illness. We are sorry for any disappointment but hope to reschedule in the New Year.

Dr Richman is a Lecturer in Pathology at the University of Leeds and has worked in bowel cancer research for over 25 years. Following a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Glasgow, she has contributed to national and international clinical trials aimed at improving outcomes for patients with bowel cancer. She is passionate about research, teaching and public engagement – and is occasionally known to appear in an emoji poo costume! Her presentation will discuss:

  • What happens to samples in a bowel cancer research lab.
  • How scientists analyse bowel tissue, microbes and stool samples.
  • What information these samples reveal about health and disease.
  • How research findings improve patient care.
  • Why charity funding is vital for medical research. Why we value our patient representatives.

This is the second event at our new venue, FortyFive Vinyl Café at 29 Micklegate, York YO1 6JH   which we are trialling over the autumn courtesy of co-owner Ian Reid. Hot drinks and alcoholic/non-alcoholic refreshments will be available from Vinyl Café’s bar.

Doors open at 7.00pm for a start at 7.30pm. Admission is free but tickets are required via this link:
