Scientific Research and the Latest Computers: The Long, the Big and the Small

Aaron Turner BSc. MSc. –  Experimental Officer, Department of Computer Science, University of York

How the latest computational resources are changing science.
This talk will look at how modern large-scale computation is affecting scientific research, as High Performance Computing opens up possibilities in all directions:

– The Long:     Making long range predictions such as climate
– The Big:    Processing large amounts of data for
– The Small:      Investigating interactions at the small scale, such as plasma physics

Aaron Turner BSc, MSc (York)  Department of Computer Science at York University will be giving the Cafe Scientifique audience a taste of the capabilities of computer science today and discussing where it will be taking us to tomorrow
