The kingdom of Mercia was situated originally in the area that is presently Staffordshire and Warwickshire. Over the last 250 years this strategically placed central region, well endowed with natural resources, became a major centre for industry and remains so today. Many of the scars of that industry have disappeared but the legacies remain e.g. Birmingham, has more canals than Venice. Our tour includes visits to the Potteries, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, the homes of the famous manufacturer Matthew Boulton and the engineer James Watt, the Black country living museum, Stourbridge glassworks, Witney Court, and Bosworth Battlefield museum.
