Visit to Allerton Waste Recovery Park

Claro House, Knaresborough, HG5 0SD

Wednesday 12th November 2025 from 2pm to 4pm plus travelling time by car

£3 per person  YPS admin fee

Allerton Waste Recovery Park lies between junctions 47 and 48 of the A1M, off the A168. If coming from York, go along the A59 then turn right onto B6265 towards Boroughbridge. At the junction, turn right onto A168. Continue for 1.8 miles and the entrance is on the right. To find the Claro House Visitor Centre entrance, turn right through the green gates. The Visitor Centre will open for our group at 1.50pm.

Please reverse park in the car park.  When leaving, please exit by turning right out of the car park via the automatic gates (They will open for you).

The visit takes around 2 hours. It will start with a film in the visitor centre, then the tour of site involves a walk which is about 1km for the round trip and there are 30 metal steps to climb (a platform lift is available for anyone unable to climb them). Please note that they can only  accommodate one person per group who cannot use the stairs to exit in an emergency in the event of a site evacuation so please do let me know if you are in this position.

We must stress that it is essential that you arrive with suitable footwear and clothing for an industrial site visit. This includes having thick soled shoes with no open toes and feet fully covered – no exposed bare skin of feet and legs and no high heels. Legs must also be covered preferably by trousers but leggings or similar are acceptable. Anyone unsuitably dressed will not be allowed on the site tour.
