Event Information

As you will know, the Mansion House has recently been refurbished. This is an opportunity to have an in-depth tour of the house and collections. The tour takes two hours, from 6pm to 8pm, and the charge will be £21, to include tea/coffee and £3 YPS admin. fee.

York’s Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor, was built between 1725 and 1732, and predates the London Mansion House by twenty years. It has just undergone the largest restoration since it was built, as part of the Heritage Lottery Fund “Opening Doors” project. In addition to conserving one of the largest civic silver collections in England, (including a solid silver Charles II chamber pot and the Sigismund sword once owned by the Holy Roman Emperor in about 1416), the original kitchens have been restored and can now be visited.

We will begin with tea/coffee in the State Room, and then have a guided tour to see the house, both above and below stairs. We will see the gold and silver, the portraits, and hear the history.

After the tour, there will be an opportunity to go for a meal at a nearby restaurant.
