“Nature provides a multitude of benefits to us, including the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe and beautiful landscapes. But most of these benefits go unnoticed or are taken for granted, so that they rarely get put into the equation when we make decisions on how to best plan our cities and landscapes. Dave Raffaelli, a professor of environmental science at the University of York, will show that nature really does do quite an enormous amount for us and that if we ignore this, then we not only jeopardise our own health and well-being, but also close down options for future generations. Daves team are working all across the UK to try to get a better grasp of the links between nature and human well-being and how best to highlight their importance for policy makers and the wider public in a time of uncertain futures.”
