Geological Map presented to the public

On Tuesday September 29th, in a full evening ceremony, the pebble mosaic representing the Yorkshire section of William Smith’s 1815 geological map was presented to the public. Created by Janette Ireland, this beautiful artwork can be seen behind the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey in Museum Gardens.

The evening’s events began at the map, where Janette and members of the project team were able to explain some of its many details, and continued in the Yorkshire Museum with displays, a lecture, and finally a reception to thank all those who had so generously given time and money to this project.
