YPS Tour to Northumbria

Sunday 6th to Wednesday 9th June 2027

This 4 days, 3 nights’ stay with 3 choice, 3 course dinner and full English breakfast is based at The Slaley Hall Hotel, Hexham (4*).

Cost from £599 per person (sharing) to include three dinners, three breakfasts, return travel by executive coach, and entry to Segendum, Ad Gefrin, Yeavering & Bamburgh Castle, guides at Ad Gefrin & Yeavering, and Farne Islands Boat Trip (entry to Warkworth Castle with English Heritage card).

Single occupancy supplement: £100.   YPS administration fee: £25 per person (to cover gratuities and other expenses).  Optional insurance: £18 per person.

Itinerary

DAY 1, Sunday 6th June: York/Segedunum/Newcastle
0830: Depart York Memorial Gardens and head north towards Hadrian’s Wall for our first visit to Segedunum.  From here we visit Newcastle upon Tyne where we take lunch before continuing to our hotel, calling in at Rothbury for a comfort break and to view the Celtic Cross. Arrival at hotel approximately 1700 hrs.

DAY 2, Monday 7th June: Ad Gefrin /Yeavering
Morning visit to Ad Gefrin museum. Tea/coffee on arrival followed by a welcome in the Great Hall and guided tour of the Museum with Dr Chris Ferguson, former Collections Manager at the Yorkshire Museum.  In the afternoon we travel to Yeavering, site of Edwin and Ethelburga’s Palace where we have a guided tour.

DAY 3, Tuesday 8th June: Seahouses/Bamburgh
Today we head to the coast to Bamburgh where we have a visit booked at the castle at 1030. We also include a visit to the Grace Darling Museum (free entry but donations welcome).  In the afternoon we head to Seahouses for a two hour boat trip to discover the colonies of seabirds and seals of the Farne Islands (weather permitting).

DAY 4, Wednesday 9th June: Warkworth Castle/Home    We return to York via Warkworth Castle (English Heritage). Entry covered by EH card. Non-members pay on arrival. Arrival time back in York in the late afternoon.

How to book

Print out and complete the booking form, insurance form and specific requirements form.  Even if you do not require the Just for Groups insurance, please indicate this on the insurance form and return it with your booking.  Paper copies of the forms are available at lectures or from the Lodge.

Please return the forms to Dorothy Nott, Yorkshire Philosophical Society, The Lodge, Museum Gardens, York, YO1 7DR, together with two cheques as follows:

·       Deposit cheque (£60 per person plus £18 per person if Just for Groups insurance is required – made payable to Just for Groups)

·       YPS administration cheque (£25 per person – made payable to Yorkshire Philosophical Society)

These cheques will not be banked until we know the tour has the viable number of participants.

Closing date for bookings: 30 November 2026.

If the tour attracts enough participants to be viable, balance payments will be due 8 weeks before departure.
