Power From Biomass
The use of wood to provide heat and light is one of the oldest and basic human technologies. Nevertheless, in our currently advanced state of technological development, we are returning to the use of biomass such as wood to produce electricity on a large scale. In North Yorkshire, we have one of the worlds largest thermal power stations using biomass to generate a significant part of the UKs electricity. Engineer Patrick Mason (IET and University of Leeds) will be explaining the reasons why wood is replacing coal in this context and how it is being achieved. Is burning wood as simple as it seems? Come along to Café Scientifique and join in the discussion.
Event supported by IET (North Yorkshire branch).
