Sunday 8th October to Tuesday 10th October 2017

On Sunday we will travel from York to Bletchley Park, the home of British code-breaking and a birthplace of modern technology. Here we will explore code-breaking huts, the Museum and Mansion on a self-guided tour. Dinner at our Oxford hotel is included. On Monday we will travel the short distance to Blenheim Palace, a World Heritage Site. Here we have the opportunity to explore the Palace, Park and Gardens. Included is a themed talk on “Winston Churchill”, who was born here, and “’Capability” Brown: Visionary or Vandal”? Exhibitions here include “Blenheim Palace: The Untold Story” and “The Churchill Exhibition”. A full day here offers many other optional opportunities, including buggy tours, several cafes, history films in the cinema and the large East Courtyard shop. Early evening we return to our hotel where dinner will again be served. On Tuesday we will visit Hughendon Manor (NT) the Victorian home of Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. Here we will have an included guided tour and coffee. There are formal gardens, estate walks and an exhibition about the secret map-making activity which took place here during World War Two. From here we will stop for an included lunch at the Haycroft Restaurant at Boycott Farm. A detailed itinerary for each venue, with background information, will be provided for all participants.
