This summer, York is hosting a “Science and Innovation Grand Tour”. This will consist of the exhibition of many art images posted around York city centre. Each image will have some connection with science and innovation in York. The Yorkshire Philosophical Society has sponsored an image in the exhibition:-
This has been chosen to represent the connection of York and YPS with Sir George Cayley, one of the world’s pioneers of aviation.
You can see the YPS exhibit on display near to the main entrance of the Museum Gardens. The exhibition runs until the end of August.

A prolific Yorkshire scientific innovator, Sir George Cayley was the first to recognise the interrelationship of lift, thrust, gravity and drag in aeroplane development – and to turn it into manned flight in 1851. He was a founder member of both the Yorkshire Philosophical Society in 1822 and of the British Association for the Advancement of Science in 1831 within these Museum Gardens.
