Event Information

The lovely county of Shropshire must surely be one of England’s secret gems. We are adding a visit to Liverpool’s spectacular Terracotta Warriors exhibition on our return journey.

Your Excursions

Wednesday 26 September

0830 Depart York to travel to Sudbury Hall & Museum ofChildhood (NT)*. There will be time to purchase lunch.1330 we leave and break our journey, at Shugboroughgh Estate (NT)* We leave at 1615 for our hotel in Telford.

Thursday 27 September

We depart the hotel at 0900 to travel to Ironbridge, birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, for an introductory tour. You then have two options, the leisurely option – 2 hr 45 min at Blists Hill, or the energetic option – Museum of the Gorge, Tar Tunnel, Hay Inclined Plane, then 1.5 hrs. at Blists Hill, departing at 12.45.

l300 arrive Coalbrookedale Iron Mine and Darby Houses for 2 hours.There are toilets, but no refreshments. Option of I+ hour at Broseley Pipeworks instead. We depart at 1445 to travel to Wroxeler Roman City (EH)*. We leave Wroxeler at1800.

Friday 28 September

We leave the hotel at 0845 for a Scenic tour, arriving at Powis Castle (NT)*. At1330 depart Powis Castle for Shrewsbury, one of England’s finest Tudor towns, where you will have time on your own for sightseeing, leaving for the hotel at 1715.

There will be an after-dinner talk by YPS memberJohn Lewis on Snailbeach lead mine and Stokesay.

Saturday 29 September

Today we will depart the hotel at 0900 to travel to Stokesay Castle (EH)*. 1230 depart for Snailbeach lead mine. We will leave here 1630.

Sunday 30 September

We depart Telford at 0900 and travel to the National Museum Liverpool for our visit to the Terracotta Warriors exhibition. There will be time to visit other local attractions & take Iunch before we depart for home at 1415.

Telford Whitehouse Hotel
Located on the edge of Wellington, the Whitehouse Hotel is less than 5 minutes’ drive from the M54 motorway. Free Wi-Fi is available.Three Pubs are within walking distance of the hotel and a late night taxi hear Telford town centre costs about E5.
